FLOORING MARKET SEGMENT MANAGER

The Company is a leading manufacturer of specialty chemical products for the concrete construction industry. Products include form release agents and form treatments, tilt-up bondbreakers, flooring systems, joint fillers, water repellants, patching materials, sealers and curing compounds.

Purpose of Position

The purpose of this position is to provide leadership and management for companywide flooring product sales. The Flooring Market Segment Manager is responsible for generating and overseeing product specification development, flooring contractor, applicator, distributor and dealer relationships and sales growth.

Position Duties and Responsibilities

ASSISTANT PROJECT MANAGER

The Assistant Project Manager is responsible for assisting their assigned Project Manager in the planning, management direction, project completion, client satisfaction, and financial outcome of assigned construction projects. ASSISTANT QUALITY ASSURANCE MANAGER

The Assistant Quality Assurance Manager assists the Quality Assurance Manager in managing the Quality Assurance Department to ensure compliance with, PCI, ISO and CSA standards.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Demonstrated understanding of Quality tools, SPC, CPK, Gage R & R and inspection tools and procedures.
  • Demonstrate ability to work in a cooperative and team oriented environment.

  • Demonstrated understanding of inspection techniques including ACI and PCI requirements
  • Responsible for calibration program used to evaluate precision and accuracy of production equipment and testing, measurement, and analytical equipment and facilities.

  • Manage/Supervise QA Techs along with support their work to ensure that products and processes comply with the relevant requirements.

  • Devises sampling procedures and designs and develops forms and instructions for recording, evaluating, and reporting quality and reliability data.
  • Create and maintain company quality documentation, work instructions and standard work, etc.
  • Compiles and writes training material and conducts training sessions on quality control activities.
  • Preparation of QA reports.
  • Responsible for continual improvement activities within the FABCON WAY structure.
  • Works with Manufacturing to solve in-house quality concerns. Support of root cause analysis and implementation of corrective action for process related concerns.
  • Review quality trends to prevent and/or reduce defects, determine problem causes, and initiate actions to correct them
  • Implement new techniques for the control of quality as directed.
  • Liaison with internal parties on matters relating to plant quality. (engineering, production, project management and drafting)
  • Understand the customer’s quality expectations and assists in determining significant characteristics and appropriate controls. Reviews product for conformance to requirements to ensure proper repairs are completed to meet requirements. Ensures timely scrapping of material when repairs are too costly or cannot be completed.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Five (5) years of experience in Quality Assurance in a manufacturing environment

GENERAL MANAGER

The General Manager reports to the Chairman. This position is responsible for the P&L and general management of the operation. With direct responsibilities for Operations and Production Programs along with direct coordination with Business Development, Engineering, Quality, Programs, Procurement, Safety, Research and Development, Sales and Human Resources. This individual will ensure quality, profitability and growth of our product portfolio. The role will require effective cross-functional and collaborative teamwork to achieve business results.

Primary Responsibilities:

Operations:

  • Responsible for organizational development and long-term operations, sales and administrative development for business.
  • Have full management responsibility for all business operations (P&L and program performance).
  • Lead the business to meet annual goals in quality, delivery and cost.

Position Summary:

The individual in this position is responsible for all aspects of precast concrete manufacturing with the exception of the QA, Batch Plant and Delivery teams. This includes the development of operating plans and department goals as well as the “hands on” coaching, mentoring and performance management of associates in Production, the Yard, Maintenance, Garage, Carpenter Shop and Rebar Facility. The Manager - Production has ultimate responsibility for safety, quality and productivity within these teams, as well as all work performed by these teams at job sites. This individual is also involved in proactively reviewing incoming and managing ongoing projects, working with Team Leaders, Supervisors and Managers to complete all work in the safest and most efficient manner possible. All duties and responsibilities must be carried out with a complete adherence and commitment to the Company’s Philosophy Statement and Vision Statement.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Coach, mentor and manage performance of individual team members, including a small team of front line supervisors, to ensure the highest levels of safety, quality and productivity in these departments. Lead and develop by setting clear expectations and holding individuals accountable for performance. Recognize success and immediately address performance issues.
  • Be proactive in improving the safety of the work environment for all associates, leading by example, developing/communicating safe operating procedures and enforcing the use of safe work methods (i.e. proper personal protective equipment, machine guards on tools, etc). Stay abreast of all applicable Federal and State regulations.
  • Identify training needs for all associates, from new or less experienced associates to Team Leaders and Supervisors. Conduct and/or facilitate formal and informal training. Ensure that ongoing training is provided regarding hazards in the workplace and all safety and health procedures.
  • Ensure that all associates understand the procedure for reporting safety and health incidents, including near misses, and that all incidents are reported, documented and investigated. Identify trends that may indicate unsafe work procedures or other types of hazards in the work environment.
  • Establish department goals that align with and ensure achievement of company goals.
  • Seek continuous improvement in the manufacturing process. Develop and implement procedures to improve safety, quality and productivity. Ensure consistent adherence to all procedures and quality standards in all production buildings.
  • Prepare the annual operating plan for all departments except QA, Batch Plant and Delivery, recommending and justifying capital expenditures both short term and long term. Review monthly financial statements for all departments and work to manage within or below the operating plan.
  • Review production cost reports in a timely manner, comparing estimated to actual expenditures on a project specific basis. Make recommendations to the estimating department or changes to the production process as necessary.
  • Actively participate, along with other members of the Fort Miller team, in pre-bid and ongoing meetings with owners, contractors and consultants to discuss upcoming projects. Provide input during these meetings on design feasibility, making suggestions and recommendations based on the project design, time line, and/or project constraints.
  • Thoroughly review projects before they hit the shop floor, proactively identifying any production issues that may arise, additional materials that may be required, etc. This involves working closely with other department managers, purchasing and members of the production, maintenance, carpenter and/or rebar teams.
  • Work closely with the Engineering Department on existing projects to resolve design and production issues, ensuring compliance with project specifications in the event that changes are made.
  • Ensure that the facility is clean and well organized following the principles of 5S.
  • Carry out all supervisory responsibilities in accordance with our Philosophy Statement, company policies and applicable laws. Provide guidance and effective counseling to associates in the work environment, consulting with the President and the VP - HR on more complex issues.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • BS in Civil Engineering or Civil Engineering Technology. MBA preferred.
  • Professional Engineer license preferred.
  • Demonstrated management and leadership skills, including 3-5 years in a management position.
  • Precast concrete knowledge, including product forming, pouring, curing, handling, storage and shipping. Pre-stress manufacturing experience preferred.
  • Ability to read and interpret complex contract plans and shop drawings.

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to withstand exposure to dust (including silica dust), fumes and chemicals such as form oil, grease, coal tar pitch and related petroleum products.

  • Visual acuity at short and long distances as well as good peripheral vision and depth perception (to perceive distance of moving objects, such as cranes and vehicles).
  • Ability to perform moderate physical work, lifting and carrying weights of up to 25 lbs. regularly and up to 75 lbs. occasionally.
  • Ability to access equipment at various levels by reaching or climbing a ladder.

BATCH PLANT OPERATOR

Arrive at plant 30 minutes prior to your first driver’s start time in summer arrive at least one hour prior to your first driver’s start time for winter opening:

  1. Open the front gate and the plant buildings
  2. Check oil in air compressors for proper level then start
  3. Turn on the plant batch computer; then activate the batch panel interface, email, and Trakit-GPS on the Windows computer, turn on the ticket and batch printers.
  4. Run the starting inventory list before batching any concrete.
  5. Turn on water system to plant and truck fill stations.
  6. During the hot water making season check the infernotherm for proper operation, water temperature and make sure the water level is full; by checking at the start of the day, at 10:00AM, and at the end of the day.
  7. Begin the process of running sand and stone moistures to determine free moisture compensation. This is done in the batch room using the triple beam scale for sand and the digital platform scale for the stone sample weighing and use the provided heating appliances to dry the aggregate out. This is a daily requirement of the PennDOT Quality Control Plan which is also the company quality control plan and needs to be done three times a day and your results put on the digital on line form for reporting moistures, slumps, concrete temperature, and air content and emailed to the QC Director and the V.P. of Operations.
  8. Turn on conveyor belt to overhead bins and observe for proper operation and any defects turn off if not loading bins.
  9. Inform the dispatch department that the plant is ready to run one half hour before the first drivers start time.
  10. Call the Dispatch Department to report any mixer driver calling out sick, coming in late or is a no call/no show then follow up with an email.

Other Responsibilities

  1. Manage the plant operations for profitability your highest priority is that the mixer trucks exit the yard on time to our customers.
  2. Manage the start and stop time of the Yardman/Assistant Batch Plant Operator and the mixer drivers.
  3. Monitor driver start times versus actual plant load time, report gaps between times in vs times loaded to V.P. of Operations Michael McCarthy.
  4. Ensure that the plant is being inspected for maintenance issues and lubricated.
  5. Fill out the general plant maintenance report and email it to V.P. of Operations by the end of the every week.
  6. Make sure that the mixer drivers are doing their daily pre trip and post trip inspections as required by the FMCSA (Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration).
  7. Verify that the mixer drivers are greasing their barrel rollers and ring daily.
  8. Make sure that all mixer drivers are checking their oil and coolant levels each morning before they start their trucks and are completing the required FMCSA 38 point pre trip inspection.
  9. Check all raw material inventories in particular the cement and admixtures daily for sufficient quantity to meet production demand.
  10. Ensure that the Yardman/Assistant Batch Plant Operator when one is assigned is fulfilling the duties of their job description which would mean keeping the overhead aggregate storage full and accomplishing the daily to do list that the Batch Plant Operator has established.
  11. Accurately record all incoming raw materials delivered to plant inventory and properly process all related paperwork.
  12. Ensure that mixer drivers on hold or waiting for releases are being give appropriate tasks to perform around the plant and yard or that they are actively cleaning the trucks during this time and that they signal this status change with their Nextel’s as they are on the clock in production time.
  13. Ensure that the plant loading area is kept free of excessive buildup on a daily basis.
  14. Regular communication via email of any and all problems with the plant, trucks, or drivers.
  15. Make sure that all accidents are reported immediately and accident forms are complete filled out all on the road and in the yard accidents and injuries email notification to the V.P. of Operations, HR, Production Manager and Driver Manager as soon as you are made aware of same.
  16. Ensure that the Yardman/Asst. Batch Plant Operator has all block forms broke the QC Manager will determine if the concrete meets the criteria needed to be reused.
  17. Communicate with V.P. of Operations for the approval of purchase orders for plant repairs parts and equipment in excess of $100.
  18. Ensure that purchase orders are used for any items purchased.
  19. Maintain a clean and orderly office area as good housekeeping is essential.
  20. Monitor that all mixer drivers fuel their trucks at the end of each day and at half tank without exception.
  21. Perform monthly truck inspections to evaluate each mixer truck for concrete buildup in mixer barrels and cleanliness of the truck cabs, mixer barrels, front hopper, under carriages and rear of the trucks to assure compliance with our company’s standard.
  22. Monitor mixer trucks daily so that if you notice any truck that is starting to get dirty or not removing concrete buildup from all areas of the truck paying special attention to the front chute assembly, load hopper, and upper catwalk areas. Give any driver that is not meeting the standard a deadline of no more than five days to clean up the area that is in need of cleaning or write him up to hold him accountable.
  23. At the end of each day, total all raw materials delivery slips and enter inventory into the batch computer. Numerically sort all office and driver delivery tickets and reconcile the office copy yardage totals with batch printout totals.

The following are the company required certifications necessary for a batch plant operator to acquire to reach Stage 1:

  • ACI Concrete Field Testing Technician Grade I Certification
  • Plant Operations and Maintenance Knowledge
  • Management of the concrete plant’s process water and concrete solids per DEP regulations and requirements.
  • OSHA Safety Training
  • Front End Wheel Loader Operation and Maintenance Knowledge

The Batch Plant Operator will need to test the first loads of concrete batched at the plant for compliance with specifications as a normal part of our quality control plan.
